Privacy Policy
The short version
This app has no account, no login and no server of its own. It never asks for your FSA ID, your Social Security number, your bank details, a password or a one-time code. Everything you type into the calculators, tick on a checklist or bookmark stays on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
The one exception is advertising. The app shows adverts through Google AdMob, and the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects a device advertising identifier in order to serve them. That is described in full below.
1. Information we do not collect
We do not ask for, collect, transmit or store any of the following:
- Your name, email address, phone number or postal address
- Your Social Security number or taxpayer identification number
- Your FSA ID, servicer login or any account credential
- Bank account details, card details or any financial account information
- Passwords, PINs or one-time passcodes
- Contacts, SMS messages, call logs, photos, files or precise location
- Any document or image
The app requests no runtime permissions. It has no access to your camera, storage, contacts, microphone or location. Its manifest declares only internet and network-state access, which it uses to fetch its advert configuration and to open official reference pages in your browser.
2. Information stored on your device
The following is written to local storage on your phone only. It is never uploaded, never synced, and never visible to us or to anyone else.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Values you have entered into calculators (balance, rate, income) | So you do not have to retype them between screens and sessions |
| Checklist progress | So your ticks survive closing the app |
| Bookmarked guide chapters and questions | So you can find them again |
| Theme preference and onboarding state | App settings |
| Advert pacing counters and any ad-free window you have earned | To limit how often adverts appear |
You can erase all of it at any time from Settings → Clear checklist progress, or by uninstalling the app.
3. Advertising
This app is free and is paid for by advertising supplied by Google AdMob. To serve adverts, measure them and limit how often you see the same one, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process:
- Your device advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID)
- Device information such as model, operating system version and language
- Coarse, IP-derived location (country or region level)
- Advert interaction events, such as an impression or a click
This is the app's only data collection, and it is carried out by Google rather than by us. We never receive it and we cannot link it to you. In Google Play's Data safety terms, this is Device or other IDs → Advertising ID: collected, shared with a third party, used for advertising. Google's handling of it is governed by the Google Privacy & Terms.
Your choices
- Where the law requires consent, the app shows a consent form from Google's User Messaging Platform before any advert is requested. You can change or withdraw that consent at any time from Settings → Ad privacy choices.
- You can reset or delete your advertising identifier in your device settings, under Settings → Google → Ads. You can also opt out of advert personalisation there.
4. Network requests
The app makes exactly three kinds of outbound request:
- Advert configuration. A small JSON file is fetched over HTTPS so adverts can be switched on or off without an app update. The request contains no information about you.
- Advert serving. Requests made by the Google Mobile Ads SDK, described above.
- Links you tap. When you open an official link, your browser loads that site directly. Whatever happens there is governed by that site's own privacy policy — including studentaid.gov and yrefy.com.
All app traffic uses HTTPS. Cleartext traffic is disabled at the platform level.
5. Children
This app is written for adults repaying higher-education loans and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through this app, contact us and we will act on it — though as described above, the app has no mechanism to receive such information in the first place.
6. Data retention and deletion
Because no personal data leaves your device, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on a server. Local data is removed when you clear it in Settings or uninstall the app. For data held by Google in connection with advertising, use Google's own controls linked above.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live — for example under the California Consumer Privacy Act, or the GDPR and UK GDPR — you may have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability over personal data held about you. Because this app holds no personal data about you on any server, those rights are satisfied by the on-device controls described above and by Google's advertising controls. If you believe otherwise, contact us and we will respond.
8. Accuracy of the content
The guidance, figures and calculators in this app are educational estimates based on publicly available information about U.S. federal student loan programmes and on terms published by the private lender the app is named after. They are not a quotation, an offer, or a statement of your actual loan balance, and they are not financial, legal or tax advice. Rules and amounts change. Confirm anything that matters with your loan servicer or on studentaid.gov before acting.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
10. Contact
Questions about this policy or about the app: [email protected]
Questions about your actual loan, your balance or an application must go to your loan servicer or to Federal Student Aid, not to us: studentaid.gov.
